Colorado Rockies (24-23) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (26-20)
COL: Jesse Hahn (3-4, 5.36)
LAD: E. Rodriguez (5-2, 2.70)
After retooling their roster, the Los Angeles Dodgers are back on top of the NL West, though the competition is still tight. They can do wonders to gain some separation by beating their opponent in the Game of the Week, the Colorado Rockies.
The Dodgers should be able to handle the Rockies offense with their excellent staff. Eduardo Rodriguez will start and is 5-2 with a 2.70 ERA. He's been excellent over his entire career when he's been able to make a full allotment of starts. He continues to keep the ball in the park and his control is better than ever. After Rodriguez, the Dodgers have eight relievers, six who have an ERA under 3. Ismael Robles is having a wonderful rookie season with a 2.49 ERA. Osiris Ramirez, Will Harris, and David Robertson all had strong seasons last year and have improved this year, with ERAs under 2. Mike Caldwell is working on a 2.93 ERA and his fourth straight year lowering his ERA. Finally, on April 17th, Kenley Jansen had a 7.36 ERA after a loss to San Diego. He's since worked 14 straight games without an earned run.
They'll take on a Rockies team that hasn't been able to push runs across. Colorado is third in average and fifth in home runs. They're also fifth in steals. However, they're only 10th in runs scored. Colorado has the third lowest OPS with men in scoring position at .625, and their second most strikeouts keeps them from getting runners home who are on the bases. With one of their better hitters, Charlie Blackmon, on the IL, they'll have to rely on Daniel Montano, a rookie previously selected and returned by the Cubs in the Rule V draft. Montano crushed Triple A the past two years and homered in San Francisco in his first week in the majors.
Questions for the GMs:
For Erick Blasco, your team isn't getting runs home despite getting on base a good amount. What can you do?
Tonight's starter Jesse Hahn has a 5.36 ERA. Are you concerned about that elevated mark?
This is the first time you're seeing the Dodgers this year. What do you think is the key to beating them?
For Ben Vincent, your team has gotten healthier this month. Have you noticed offensive improvements from your club?
With Jurrickson Profar having completely fallen apart, can you carry Amin Valdez in the lineup with him?
Tetsuo Yamada was a Japanese superstar who struggled to gain his footing in the US last year before a late surge helped his numbers. Another year in, how would you evaluate him and his fit for your team?
TRIVIA: How many players have hit more home runs all time in the Nippon Baseball League than Tetsuo Yamada?
