We've had some weirdness involving playoff eligibility in the past. It's worth exploring the logic of playoff rosters.
Right now the setup is for players who are on the active roster August 31 to be the eligible players for the postseason (with replacements allowed for injuries). This is done so random dudes who spent the entirety of the year in Triple-A end up on the playoff roster despite not being a real part of the team. Still, it's worth checking in with the league to see what people think.

I think the full 40 man is too much. I agree with the sentiment that random dudes who never appeared in the majors during the year shouldn't suddenly be playoff eligible. But I also think having only the 26 on your roster on August 31st is too limiting. I tend to use a lot more than 26 players over the course of the season, especially for stuff like platoons/cycling relievers with options. I think 26 is just a little too limiting for teams in designing playoff rosters to match up with their opponent. Maybe some restriction where a player must have appeared in the majors and had X PA's/appearances by August 31st?

I also think the 40 man roster is too much, but it anyone really going to call up someone who has never played just for the playoffs? (Besides the Twins who did it in MLB last year.) I mean, no one is going to call up a guy from AA because they just want to give him a taste of the show. They're doing it because they want to put up their best roster when it counts. If their best roster is really in the minors, and they've made it to the playoffs, it's not because they've been stashing prospects, it's because guys have been injured. Wouldn't we rather have a star who spent the year on the 60-day DL buy rehabbed in time for the playoffs be able to play?
As it is now, the game doesn't even enforce the rules on the playoff roster screen correctly anyway. Players who should be eligible show up as ineligible. Also, the playoff roster rules don't really show up anywhere until we reach the playoffs, which can be kind of a shock for a manager who doesn't know about the arbitrary cutoff beforehand. I say make it more flexible, so we get the best players playing in the playoffs.
