San Francisco Giants (0-0) @ Los Angeles Dodgers (0-0)
SF: Alfredo Estevez (0-0, 0.00)
LAD: Josh Weaver (0-0, 0.00)
Giants 3 Key Stats
20: Wins last year for Alfredo Estevez: Estevez has had a spectacular start to his career, leading the league in Wins and WAR last year as a 24 year old. Still just 24 for a few more days, Estevez will look to atone for a bad start in his last regular season start. Last year on September 28 at home against the Dodgers, Estevez allowed seven runs in 2.2 innings, effectively handing Los Angeles the division.
5: Career PBA starts for Aaron Allen. Allen has been a Top 100 prospect since being drafted ninth overall back in 2022. A slow development path, combined with San Francisco’s deep talent base has left him blocked. He received 46 at bats last year, but with only four starts, getting into 42 games as a reserve. The First Base job is finally his, and it will be up to him to show us if it was worth the wait.
0: Starts last year for Walter Trahan. A 13-game winner, and the starter in San Francisco’s Wild Card Game, Trahan has been moved to the bullpen. He had good numbers, and led the league in BABIP, but many felt he was stretched too far as a starter. He could be an elite Closer, or he could fail to adapt to his new role. He’s someone to pay a close eye on this year.
Dodgers 3 Key Stats
13: Josh Weaver’s prospect ranking: Weaver was a late-round pick of Detroit in 2026, taken in the 23rd round. He pitched in rookie ball as a non-descript arm before earning a Dominican Rookie League All-Star nod in 2028. He pitched well in High-A in 2029, adding a ton of velocity, and rounding out his slider. His appearance as a key player on the PBA stage is a sudden one. Not-even a Top 100 prospect and starting the year in Short-A in 2029, he’ll be Los Angeles’ opening day starter.
7: Home Runs for Manny Machado last year. Machado is a seven-time All-Star, but his power has waxed and waned since hitting 54 homers for the Cubs in 2025. Injuries held him to six homers in 2026, then he hit a solid, but unspectacular 19 for the Dodgers in 2027. He only had eight in half a year with the Cardinals in 2028, before seeing the muscle return in 2029 with 27 homers for Seattle. Last year though, he only had seven in a half-season’s worth of games, and wasn’t getting starts down the stretch with San Francisco. The Dodgers may be getting a powerful slugger, or a good doubles hitter, or, a washed up veteran. He’s played all those roles since leaving Chicago.
105: Jorge Ramos’s games played last year: Ramos was a big part of the Dodgers lineup his first three years of his career, but has had fewer than 100 starts the last two years. Alex’ Verdugo’s renaissance and Salesman’s presence last year held Ramos to a support role. This year’s he’s going to be asked to play Right Field again and hit third. It should give Los Angeles an elite defense, but Ramos a chance to show that he’s not about to give up his job again.
Questions for the GMs:
For Vic Black. Last year you were an offensive powerhouse. This year, Willi Castro will play Third Base, Sam McMillian will play Catcher, and Luis Zapien will play Center Field. Are you worried your offense won’t be good enough this year?
Walter Trahan was really good as a starter last year. Why did you move him to the pen?
How much will Brian Hampton play this year?
For Ben Vincent, with several hitters moving on, do you feel you have the offense to win the World Series?
What role will Too Cool Ricky Chavez play for you this year?
You have four lefties in your rotation. Is that by design?
