San Francisco Giants (0-0) @ Seattle Mariners (0-0)
SF: Shamar Polite (0-0, 0.00) SEA: Regis Jentzsch (0-0, 0.00)
The Seattle Mariners left the playoffs disappointed last year, but they left the regular season as firm championship contenders. The addition of Tony Sierra could make them the team to beat. They take on a San Francisco Giants club that missed the playoffs last year for the first time since 2023. They’re certainly hungry to return to the playoffs, but may be entering a downward cycle. Tonight’s game will speak to the direction of their season.
Questions for the GMs:
For Vic Black, defense dragged you down last year. Will you place more of an emphasis on defense in today’s game?
Shamar Polite has only been a full time starter once in his career. Why have you pulled him into the rotation instead of leaving him in the bullpen, where he’s been excellent.
Chad Woods is dinged up. Will he begin the year on the IL?
For Jay Bigs, it looks like Jack Hembree has made your opening day roster. What gave him the edge in picking up one of the final spots?
Gleyber Torres has a vesting option for 550 Plate Appearances. Will you attempt to have the option vest this year or give him fewer a bats?
You have some budget space available. Do you plan on tapping into it to make an addition or will you keep that budget space into the season?
TRIVIA: The United States won the WBC last year, behind amazing baseball in all facets, including speed. What American player is the All-Time player in WBC Steals?

With Hembree filling out his potential I think it was a good opportunity to get him reps in the majors this year as we plan to use him as the starting 3B next year. It will also help us not vest Torres option as mainly we need the budget space so he will be the casualty. 3. With this years budget space we have potential to bring in a FA, maybe am arm but it's possible we keep it incase on a future injury.

Giants 6 - Mariners 4
WP: M. Lias (1-0) LP: R. Jentzsch (0-1) SV: W. Trahan (1)
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Seattle Mariners home opener. Regis Jentzsch started for the home team against Mekhi Lias for the San Francisco Giants. The Mariners were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-4, San Francisco. Juan Campos, though, was impressive. Walter Trahan sewed up the save, his 1st.
Tomaz Espassandim, the 26-year old second baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Espassandim contributed a 2-run triple in the top of the fifth inning to put San Francisco up, 5-3.
"I like our moxie," said Giants manager Vic Black.
Questions for the GMs:
For Vic Black, Mario Vasquez got the start despite only nine PBA starts on his record. How do you think he looked out there?
Did you agree with the decisions to pinch run for Vazquez late in the game with Omer de Vos, leading to you burning your backup Catcher Israel Cruz as the new DH?
Your team struck out 15 times. Are you concerned with the swing-and-miss in your lineup?
For Jay Bigs, did you agree with the decision by your manager bot to have Brad Street face one lefty, get pulled, and then have Floripes Stockler face a bunch more lefties?
Stockler and Mike Holbrook are young arms who allowed inherited runs to score. Are you feeling confident in your young bullpen's ability to get out of jams?
Gleyber Torres misjudged a popup in the fifth inning, leading to Zipper Willemsen singling and scoring the Giants' fifth and eventual winning run. Are you confident in the veteran's defense at Third Base?
TRIVIA: Torres misplayed a popup into a single, but wasn't charged with an error on the play. Who has the most career errors at Third Base in the PBA?

Are you confident in the veteran's defense at Third Base? 1. Its baffling to only face 1 Lefty and then sub him, words will be had. 2. THey are young, they need a bit of time to get up to speed but its a long season and any early instability im sure will benefit us later in the season when they figure it out. 3. His defense isnt too bad, he wont be judged too harshly in the first game of the year.
