some context from Tim
Some observations on Dev Lab after the first offseason: -They’ve done a good job making it so it won’t be abused. —Each player can do a specific training once per offseason, so you can’t spam a below average fielding SS to make them elite. —If you’re looking at improving a major rating, it will take the entire offseason. Contact, Power, Eye, Movement, Control, etc. —Unless you get an “outstanding” result, which is rare, Potential isn’t impacted. So you’re really just helping players realize their potential. —Good results are far from guaranteed, especially for the more impactful ratings. I have about a 33% success rate on the Hard/Very Hard trainings which seems about norm. —The ratings boosts for a successful training is typically 1 or less than 1, and that’s on a 1-20 scale. We run on 1-10, so it maybe more of the less than 1 improvements. The only one that I could see being abused is “Learn New Position.” It’s Easy difficulty, I’ve had two “Outstanding” results that resulted in a 2-4 point boost on fielding ratings. But since it’s learning a new position, those boosts are typically opposite of their natural position. For instance, both of my outstanding were for OF, so the 2-4 point boost was for IF ratings. So I only see it being impactful if you have someone that is on the verge of being able to play IF or OF. Since it’s for the entire org, and so many of the trainings take most of the entire offseason, I’d say we probably should do more than just 3 slots, otherwise it’s going to be pretty pointless. Probably something we should vote on, though.
Another note, I tried improving defense on a prospect with 14 CF defense (1-20 scale); and it was unsuccessful and was told in the message that it’s difficult to improve defense on a player that’s already so good defensively, so I’m thinking the better the defense, the more difficult to see positive results.
