The Seattle Mariners are a team in limbo. They have a good veteran presence and some large contracts, and some decent prospects, but not enough of either to fully go "Win now!" or "rebuild".
Considering a slow start and injuries to starters Iwakuma and Paxton, the Mariner's are not considering competing in 2017. However, the plan is to "retool" for 2018. Acquisitions of Wil Myers, Boone Logan, and Lorenzo Cain (extension pending) should ensure a competitive team next year.
For the remainder of 2017. expect the Mariners to play .500 ball and continue to tinker with the AAA and MLB roster in order to return with force next year!
