We've had some weirdness involving playoff eligibility these past few years. Mostly the issue is a result of the game not handling it well. However, it's worth exploring the logic of playoff rosters.
Right now the setup is for players who are on the active roster August 31 to be the eligible players for the postseason (with replacements allowed for injuries). This is done so random dudes who spent the entirety of the year in Triple-A end up on the playoff roster despite not being a real part of the team. Still, it's worth checking in with the league to see what people think.

I don't really have a strong opinion on playoff roster rules either way. I haven't been/am not a playoff team and not sure if/when I'll be one. But it seems to me that using the 40 man would be easier to keep track of for the commissioner right? We had all these issues that it seems like would be easy to solve if teams knew they just had a to have their 40 man set by August 31st to have their playoff roster set as well.

I actually voted No, because even though that's easier, I feel like it's bullshit where some pinch runner festers in Triple-A all year and gets added to the playoff roster because there's no need for depth and a niche player is more useful

I haven't run into any real problems these past years that I can recall.

I voted for the 40 man, though I'm not sure this actually helps much, because the game seems to do a pretty poor job of enforcing its own rules. I had a few issues this year:
2 players injured at the end of August, ready to play again in the NLDS; the game would not allow me to add them to the playoff roster.
1 player injured in September, not ready to play in the NLDS; the game would not allow me to name an injury replacement to the playoff roster, leaving me shorthanded.
Erick fixed both of these problems for me by making roster moves prior to simming, and that's probably an acceptable workaround.
We also saw an issue this year with a player being activated from the IL during the middle of a series, which the game specifically says isn't allowed, but apparently doesn't prevent.
Actually, since none of these issues are really addressed by using the 40 man, I'm going to change my vote to No.
