Teams right now are able to retain as much salary as they want to facilitate trades, allowing some teams to add expensive players at no financial cost. Theoretically, the retaining team should have leverage to extract extra assets from the overbudget team as a result of retainment. Still, it's allowed certain teams to put together a roster of very expensive players. Should this practice be changed?
