We've had issues for years in this league with losing teams being terrible down the stretch. We know future draft classes up to 4 years out, and we've seen the league devolve to where the worst teams are absolutely terrible and bad teams are incentivized to improve draft position. A lottery hedges against tanking and hedges against manipulating draft picks based on the quality of a draft class. And lotteries are fun.

I stunned myself by voting yes. I hate lotteries, but the reality of this league is that most of the worst teams aren’t gaming the system; it’s GMs who aren’t paying attention. If we have a lottery, there’s a better chance that active GMs who aren’t the worst team in the league might get a better pick. There’s also the chance to get screwed if you’re trying, but truly suck. Either way, it’s a pointless vote at this point and more of a thought exercise.

If we want to reward active GMs over inactive ones, then why not just do that? Set a threshold where if a team misses a certain number of exports, their draft slot drops. No need for lottery randomness.
