Atlanta Braves (87-62) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (45-104)
ATL: Marc Eberle (15-8, 3.36)
ARI: Juan Alvarado (4-9, 4.92)
Braves 5 Key Stats:
126: Braves Stolen Bases, tops in the NL. Atlanta stole 90 bases last year, so Aaron Dunham has encouraged them to be more aggressive this year.
15: Wins for Marc Eberle, tied for third in the NL. He won 18 in 2025.
6.9: Ronny Maurcio’s WAR total. Mauricio has just 10 home runs, but a .297 average, 27 steals in 29 attempts, and a 16.4 Zone Rating have allowed him to become a premier Shortstop.
15: The number of consecutive scoreless outings for Trevor Rogers. The premier left-hander continues to be one of the best arms in baseball despite pitching only 73.2 innings. He’s on pace for a 3.7 WAR season.
47: Wins for Atlanta in their last 70 games. Atlanta was 41-41 following an extra-innings loss to the Marlins on July 3. They were 7.5 behind the Nationals in the division. They jumped Yunior Cano for six runs in the first two innings the following day, kicking off their 47-23 stretch that has them 4 up on the Mets with two weeks left.
Diamondbacks 5 Key Stats:
-1.2: Trey Ball’s WAR. Ball has 30 homers and 78 RBIs, but a .259 on-base-percentage and 214 strikeouts as a DH really set him back.
.164: Deshawn Delaine’s Batting Average in September. DeLaine had a nice season entering this month, but has really struggled in September. He’s hit lefties well, has stolen 21 bases, and leads the league in Triples with 11. For a former Rule V pick who was awful in 2025, it’s been a successful campaign for DeLaine.
.323: Tony Sierra’s Batting Average at Chase Field. Sierra’s hit .285 with 11 Doubles to begin his career, looking like a solid player after 36 games. He’s really excelled at home though, and will get a chance to continue his fine play at home against the club that traded him away.
25: The number of pitchers who have pitched for Arizona this year. Five are position players working in blowouts, but 20 is a large number of arms to pitch for the team. Only two have been worth more than 1.0 WAR.
3: Wins Arizona has against the Braves this season. Arizona swept Atlanta in Atlanta in late April. The Diamondbacks allowed 9 runs in the series.
Questions for the GMs:
For Aaron Dunham, after nearly a full year, how does the Juan Gestoso trade look to you?
Your defensive efficiency is only eighth despite putting an emphasis on defense. Why has it dropped off this year?
Zach Collins hit 46 homers last year, but has played in only 43 games this season. Why has he been so deemphasized from a team that hasn’t had the same power stroke it had last year?
For Will Harrison, your team has struggled this year, but you offered an extension to Bench Coach Elvis Morel. Why give him a contract for 3 more years?
How has Tony Sierra looked to you his rookie year?
Have any players played their way into significant roles next year?
TRIVIA: Only one player has produced more than 1.6 WAR as the Arizona Diamondbacks primary First Baseman that year. Who is it?
