This afternoon, the St. Louis Cardinals unveiled the rebranding of their baseball stadium. Google has invested 5 writing points $400 million over the 20 years for the naming rights to the new "Cardinal's Nest."
St. Louis owner Caleb Nice, general manager Tim Lentz, and ballplayers Josh Weyer and Chris Rosencutter were on hand for the press conference on Wednesday.
"This is a wonderful partnership that will bring cutting edge technology to the organization. This will revolutionize the fan experience, how we analyze the game, and even player safety."
"I'm really digging the new face recognition system to enter the clubhouse," Weyer said, "No more waiting on security to let us in."
Rosencutter didn't seem as enthused, "For some reason it didn't recognize my face..." to which Weyer responded, "That's weird, I had no issues." Lentz quickly interrupted them, "Oh, I'm sure all of the kinks will get worked out in time for our 2029 roster to take the field."
It was rumored that the Houston Astros organization was also competing for Google's sponsorship, but Houston's demands regarding the number of cameras on the opposing dugout and their concerns around privacy of the video taken was too much of an ask for Google.
The Cardinal's Nest will be revamped and ready for Opening Day 2029.
