Chicago White Sox (0-0) @ Kansas City Royals (0-0)
CHW: Laurente Baffi (0-0, 0.00)
KC: Ryan Beyer (0-0, 0.00)
White Sox 3 Key Stats
11: Gold Glove Awards on Chicago’s roster: Ozzie Albies and Ke’Bryan Hayes have 7 Gold Glove Awards on the left side of Chicago’s infield, making it tough for hitters to get hits through the left side. Luis Torribio also has a Gold Glove award as a utility infielder, making it possible for Chicago to have Gold Glove winners at three infield spots. Austin Beck and Garrett Mitchell are also Gold Glove winners. The defense for Chicago should be exceptional with this much talent on the roster.
6: Career right hamstring injuries for Laurenti Baffi: Despite not playing a position that puts too much pressure on hamstrings, Baffi has shown that he is injury prone to his right leg. Perhaps, he charges after weak hits like a Barbarian, or perhaps his mechanics cause the injury. Chicago will need him to shore up his leg strength if they want to compete this year.
1: The number of White Sox who have hit 20+ home runs after 2026: Chicago has some players who have hit a nice share of homers before, but most are from the middle of the decade when Garret Mitchell was at his offensive peak, Luis Torribio and Ke’Bryan Hayes had their lone good offensive seasons, or Heliot Ramos was a thing. Those players have all fallen off recently, and are joined in the roster by non-power threats or fringe players. Mounds Ramos will need to do a lot of heavy lifting to provide power for Chicago.
Royals 3 Key Stats
41: Addison Reed’s age. Reed has produced at least 1 WAR every season of his Royals tenure, and every year of his career save for 2021 when he was coming back from a torn UCL. This includes last year when he made his way back from elbow ligament reconstruction surgery to produce a strong 3.28 ERA on the back of allowing a single homer in 50 innings. Reed has turned in a stellar career, and it’s a marvel that he’s continuing it again. Look for him to be a prominent member of the Royals pen.
11: Roderick Dalton’s WBC RBI total this year: Dalton got his year off to a good start with a nice run in the WBC for Australia. In only nine games, he homered four times, walked nine times, hit .357, and drove in 11 runs. He finished fifth in homers despite not playing as many games as his competitors, and helped Australia reach the Second Round of the tourney for the third straight year. Dalton had a bit of a down year last year, so to see him have a huge WBC is a good sign for his 2030 prospects.
191: Strikeouts for Ryan Beyer last year. Beyer has turned into one of the game’s best per-inning pitcher. He only pitched 165.1 innings last year, but still blew away almost 200 players. He’s exceptional at keeping the ball in the park—a prerequisite for working on the Royals—and his limited innings are compensated for by an excellent bullpen. Don’t expect him to work long, but expect him to have a strong start in today’s contest.
Questions for the GMs:
For Zigmo Thedogo, it looks like Garret Mitchell has come down with Gout and will have to miss the game. How does this effect your lineup and defense?
Baffi the Barbarian has suffered six hamstring injuries in his career. Your trainer, Bert Miller, is inexperienced in treating leg injuries. Are you worried Baffi could get hurt?
The Royals rarely walk anyone, but long at bats may get Ryan Beyer out of the game early. Will you try to drive his pitch count up?
For Daniel Kent, Joey Young has a strained oblique. Will he play today?
You recently claimed Taban Ohon, Kevin Ecevit, Robby Beam, and Chris Ely. Why did you target those players?
Laurenti Baffi is talented but strains his hamstring a lot. Will you do a lot of bunting to try to test his legs?
