San Francisco Giants (10-5) @ Philadelphia Phillies (7-9)
SF: Dave Ironside (1-1, 4.22)
PHI: Doug Dombrowski (1-0, 1.42)
The San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies do battle in a game both teams could use. The Giants are 10-5, but many of their wins are close wins, extra inning wins, and last-at bat wins, and their schedule has been relatively easy. The Philadelphia Phillies are 7-9, thoroughly handling the Atlanta Braves, but struggling with a step up in competition, going 2-8 against the Mets and Cardinals.
The Phillies are getting great production from the heart of the order as Bobby Siegel is hitting .338 with seven long balls, and Brian Radcliffe has five homers backing him up. Five hitters are hitting .225 or worse though. The Giants are in a similar boat. Some hitters are playing very well with a trio of batters batting .343 or higher, but four hitters are hitting .210 or worse. Today’s game will be a great opportunity for a struggling batter to turn things around and get their team a big win.
Questions for the GMs:
For Vic Black, Andrew Benintendi will be out a month and a half to two months. Who will replace him in the lineup?
Shamar Polite is day to day for the next two weeks. Will he go on the IL or play through his back tightness?
Chad Woods finally recovered from a strained oblique. Will he be back in the lineup?
For Matt Grubs, Gerardo Diaz has a sore shoulder and will miss time. Who will take his place in the bullpen?
Allen Whitmore has a bruised arm. Will he play today?
Destiny Galemberti has a .254 slugging percentage and a .539 OPS. After a strong 2030, he was disappointing last year. How concerned are you with the former top prospect’s play?
TRIVIA: Two primary San Francisco Giants Center Fielders have had 40+ doubles in a season. Who are those players?
