Trout. Harper. Bryant. Stanton. These are the names one would often mention when asked about the best outfielders in the PBA. However, one name often left out of the discussion belongs to Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier. The unquestioned face of the Rays franchise, Kiermaier has proven that he belongs in the discussion for AL MVP.
Hitting .301 with 86 RBIs and 30 bombs so far this season, Kiermaier has led the Rays to a large lead in the AL East. While names like Martinez, Machado, and Mejia should also be considered, Kiermaier is no doubt also in the conversation.
When talking to the media Kiermaier remained humble, “It’s not about me, it’s about this team and what this group has been able to accomplish so far. I could care less about the MVP, or defensive awards, or my stats... we’re focused on the damn World Series.”
The Rays leader looks to continue his strong season as the season races towards an exciting conclusion.
He deserves the MVP, but he’d gladly take a World Series trophy any day of the week.
