Dodgers at Cubs
Do you like symmetry?
Cubs 1st in defense, 5th in offense.
Dodgers 1st in offense, 5th in defense.
Injuries
Dodger's Pollock is back!
Cub's Bryant misses postseason by 1 week, why?!?
Cub's Rademacher is back to replace injured Ramon Flores, sweeeet.
Rotation
Dodgers
Kershaw, Urias, Maeda, Wood... L,R,L,L, 2.81, 3.50, 4.60, 5.29
That's the rotation LA will go with in the series, attacking mainly from the left side with an ascending ERA that borders on the cringe-worthy.
Luckily Maeda and Wood have each pitched will in their only post season starts.
Urias has been awesome... And this is the part where we fawn all over Kershaw... Except we don't?
However, coming off a tender elbow, Kershaw has put up an ERA of 8.31 in his lone start.
Ouch, that cannot continue. Asked about his poor performance in the division series Kershaw had this to say:
"Chill."
Cubs
Sale, Hendricks, Lester, Arrieta... L,R,L,R 3.90, 3.50, 2.92, 3.22
That's a nice set of starters right there.
All four have pitched basically fine in the post season with Lester putting up a mediocre start.
It's the best set of starts in the NL, if not the ML. Combining for 16.9 WAR, from T to B, they're a great staff.
Bullpen
Both teams feature an elite closer. Kenley Jansen (LAD) and Wad Davis (CHN) have been great.
From that point these two collections diverge.
The Dodgers follow Jansen with...
Sergio Romo
L Adam Libertore
Josh Fields
L Paco Rodriguez
Some other dudes.
The Cubs on the other hand do. not. stop.
Justin Grimm
AJ Ramos
Pedro Strop
Carl Edwards Jr.
Cam Bedrosian
David Robertson
How many closers is that? That's 6 bro, and they've all saved a game within the last 2 years.
Lineup
The Dodgers lineup is obscene, it's so dangerous it's been banned in 14 states.
But how are they vs. lefties, the Cubs have 2 great lefty starters?
Sorry bruh, they're insanely good, Cody Bellinger haunts the nightmares of southpaws everywhere crushing them to the tune of a 1.053 OPS.
Asked about his success against Lefty's Bellinger rejoiced, "they are fools, to a man they lack character and purpose, their downtrodden nature and weakness of skill humors me much."
Unfortunately for the Cubs, they only have two hitters with an OPS above 800 against lefties. The Dodgers have 3 Lefty starters.
This offense is hobbled without Bryant, there are many good hitters, but none are elite.
Candelario, the Cubs best hitter has been awful this post season, but Rizzo has picked up the slack, hitting 3 HRs and putting up an OPS over 1200.
Prediction
Like the Battle of Thermopylae a prodigious defense can slow or stall a wave of offense that rises and pushes and carves away at your stronghold but will ultimately fall...
The Dodgers, like the Persians, have the numbers, they have the higher ground and they have the weaponry to stifle any opponent.
As for the Cubs, it shall be said on the day of their reckoning...
"Here they defended themselves to the last, those who still had swords using them, and the others resisting with their hands and teeth."
