the A's rebuild starts...
Oakland send:
Sean Manaea SP (ml)
$720k cash (covers this years remaining salary)
Indians send:
Marino Campana RF (-a)
Miguel Hiraldo SS (r)
Logan Ice C (aa)
Alex Scherff SP (a)
In many years of playing online OOTP I don't think I've ever gone 'full rebuild'. It's possible to turn over half a shitty roster whilst trying to win. However, this A's team needs a start over. This isn't because the roster is particularly terrible, although it's got some huge holes, but because the Astros and Rangers and stellar light years ahead. Outside of the bullpen maybe only Manaea and Barreto get onto the Astro's 25 man. I won't tank for picks, because I'll need some gate revenue to pay for a few good bats entering arbitration but there is zero point trying to 'compete' at this stage. So this is the first part of the wholesale rebuild.
Manaea's ratings are better than his results, but he's still young and cheap and may need a change of scenery (i.e. some defense and run support) to fulfill his promise. Outside of the bullpen he's probably my biggest trade chip.
I think I got a decent return for him. None of these guys are nailed on MLers - but all have a high ceiling, and three are top 100 specs. If Campana works out he'll be a huge bat for us - although he doesn't seem to be developing as he should just yet. Hiraldo is probably my favorite of the group, and Scherff could be a backend guy if he can add some control.
