It is illegal for players to be granted any kind of option following a team option. The reasoning is that players aren't smart enough to understand that they don't get leverage with a player or vesting option after a team option, as the teams can simply not pick up the preceding team option.
The punishment for this contract could be releasing the player, as their contract is signed in bad faith OR
Guaranteeing the options, perhaps conceding salary terms to the owners, but also removing their leverage with the team option years.
